Key Takeaways

  • Bitchat, a decentralized messaging app built on the Bitcoin network, has launched on Apple's App Store.
  • Jack Dorsey continues to advance decentralized technology initiatives through Bitcoin-focused projects.

Bitchat, the decentralized messaging application developed by Jack Dorsey, is now available on Apple’s App Store, Block CEO said in a Monday statement .

Dorsey first unveiled the beta version of Bitchat earlier this month. The app enables encrypted peer-to-peer communication over Bluetooth mesh networks, eliminating the need for internet connectivity and enhancing resilience against censorship and network outages.

Designed without central servers or user accounts, Bitchat is intended for use in environments with limited or no internet access, such as protests or disaster zones.

The launch reflects Dorsey’s continued commitment to Bitcoin and decentralized technologies. Since stepping down as Twitter CEO in 2021, he has focused on advancing Bitcoin infrastructure and open-source projects through his company Block.

Block officially entered the SP 500 last week, becoming the second crypto-focused firm to join the index. The inclusion points to the growing role of digital asset firms in traditional financial benchmarks.

Block shares have climbed 11% over the past five trading days. The stock saw a modest surge in pre-market trading Monday, according to Yahoo Finance.
