According to a report by Jinse Finance citing The New York Times, over the past few months, Meta Platforms (META.O) CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been restructuring the company’s artificial intelligence operations. Now, he plans to take further steps that could intensify internal turbulence within the tech business. According to two people familiar with the matter, Meta is expected to announce on Tuesday that it will split its AI division—the Meta Superintelligence Lab—into four groups. One group will focus on AI research; another will concentrate on a potentially powerful form of AI known as “superintelligence”; a third will be responsible for products; and the fourth will handle infrastructure such as data centers and other AI hardware. The sources said these moves are intended to better organize Meta to accelerate AI product development and compete with other companies. They also noted that some AI executives are expected to depart. Meta is also considering an overall reduction in the size of its AI division, which could include layoffs or transferring employees to other parts of the company, as the division has grown to several thousand people in recent years. However, discussions are still ongoing and no final decisions have been made.
