Arbitrum targets major expansion in Asia with Devcon initiative

Arbitrum targets major expansion in Asia with Devcon initiative

The Arbitrum Foundation has announced its "Road to Devcon" initiative as part of its strategy to capitalise on Asia's rapid growth in the blockchain space.

This campaign, designed to bolster the region's developer community and crypto adoption rates, includes several in-person events and educational opportunities ahead of Devcon 2024, set to take place in Bangkok.

The Foundation has organised two ArbiLink events in Vietnam and Indonesia, focusing on connecting with fast-growing local developer communities, which have seen year-on-year growth of over 30%, according to Github data.

Additionally, a "Step Into Arbitrum" Learn and Earn campaign will introduce participants to the Arbitrum SDK through five modules, followed by a developer-focused bounty competition.

Arbitrum’s (CRYPTO:ARB) focus on Asia comes on the heels of its recent appearances across the region, including events at Korea Blockchain Week and the first-ever Arbitrum Night in Tokyo.

These events featured games, NFT projects, and collaborations with notable partners like ApeChain and Ubisoft.

During a podcast appearance alongside Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) creator Vitalik Buterin, Arbitrum discussed the value of layer 2s experimenting with custom features, highlighting the development of Arbitrum Stylus—a flexible programming environment aimed at helping Web2 developers transition into Web3.

The Foundation’s push into Asia is also driven by the region’s growing internet and smartphone penetration, expected to reach 90% by 2025, and favorable regulatory conditions.

Singapore, for instance, has established a stablecoin regime, and Thailand has introduced a crypto-friendly regulatory framework.

These factors, combined with positive macroeconomic indicators, suggest Asia is well-positioned for continued blockchain growth.

According to Takamasa Minami, Head of Marketing at the Arbitrum Foundation, “The APAC region has been a key focus in H2 2024, and we believe it will play a pivotal role in expanding our growth internationally.”

At press time, the Arbitrum price was $0.5737.
