This is one reason why Ethereum is even more important than Bitcoin. In Meditations on Moloch (stop right now and read it if you somehow haven’t yet; link in next tweet), @slatestarcodex expressed concern about Bitcoin removing one of the only tools we have to defeat Moloch: coordination. “People are using the contingent stupidity of our current government to replace lots of human interaction with mechanisms that cannot be coordinated even in principle. And if we ever get real live superintelligence, pretty much by definition it is going to have >51% of the power and all attempts at ‘coordination’ with it will be useless.” This is fair, because Bitcoin’s thing is largely removing the ability to coordinate about monetary policy in order to create the most legitimate/strong form of money possible. But Ethereum takes the same trick and uses it to create not legitimate money but an incorruptible platform for coordination itself. Ethereum has long had the goal of remaining functional and robust even in the face of a potential World War III. What @0xNN2 is saying is that Ethereum must and will also be functional and robust in the face of ASI and aliens. Amen.
