The Taiko protocol went live at the end of May, aiming to provide users with cheaper and faster transactions than the Ethereum mainnet. Since its launch, Taiko has spent up to $900,000 on Blob purchases in less than two weeks to transfer user transactions to the Ethereum network. In contrast, its competitors like Optimism spend significantly less on daily Blob costs, generally below $1,000. Introduced as part of an Ethereum upgrade in March, Blob is a new resource for L2 networks that allows for lower-cost posting of Ethereum transactions. Daniel Wang, CEO of Taiko Labs explained: "Taiko just launched its mainnet and there are many issues to resolve before it stabilizes. Currently we use more blobs than other L2s - this is a design decision rather than a bug."
