According to NBC News, Democratic presidential candidate Harris has called for raising the corporate tax rate to 28 percent, her first major proposal as a presidential candidate, in an effort to raise government taxes and fund the expensive programs she wants to pursue. James Singer, Harris' campaign spokesman, said Harris would push for a 28 percent corporate tax rate, calling it “a fiscally responsible way to put money back into the pockets of working people and make sure that billionaires and big corporations pay their fair share.” If implemented, the policy would raise hundreds of billions of dollars. It would also overturn a large portion of legislation signed by former President Don Trump while he was president that lowered the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent. Meanwhile, Trump recently said that if elected president, he would cut taxes even further, including for corporations.
