FTC Cracks Down on “Deceptive” Artificial Intelligence Programs

On September 26, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) said on September 25 that it would launch “Operation AI Comply” as part of a new round of enforcement actions against five companies that “rely on artificial intelligence to engage in deceptive or unfair practices to the detriment of consumers. In a statement, FTC Chairwoman Lina Khan said, “It is illegal to use artificial intelligence tools to deceive, mislead, or defraud people.” She added that the enforcement action makes it clear that “the law does not exempt artificial intelligence.”
