The City of Lugano through its joint initiative with USDT issuer Tether, Plan ₿, has erected a statue to honor the vision and legacy of Bitcoin’s anonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto .
Lugano launched the Plan ₿ initiative in March 2022 to scale its blockchain capabilities and promote the city as a major hub for European blockchain adoption. The initiative started with Bitcoin, USDT, and Lugano’s own LVGA tokens as payment options for taxes, public services, parking tickets, and tuition fees.
Satoshi Nakamoto’s Statue in Lugano
According to a press release on October 25, government officials, blockchain industry leaders, and Bitcoin enthusiasts gathered on Friday to unveil a life-sized statue of Satoshi Nakamoto at the 3rd Annual Plan ₿ Forum in Lugano.

Erected in front of Lugano’s Villa Ciani, the statue captures Satoshi Nakamoto’s mystery and innovation through perception. It gradually disappears from view when an observer changes their perspective, symbolizing the anonymous creator’s retreat from the public after the foundation of the crypto revolution.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino lauded the development, noting that it was a testament to Bitcoin’s impact on the financial landscape and the idea of decentralization.
“This artwork serves as a reminder of the enduring influence of Satoshi’s vision, inspiring us to continue pushing the boundaries of innovation and financial freedom.
