Co-founder Ethereum Vitalik Buterin decided to donate 10 million Thai baht (about $292) to the Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand.
The money will supposedly go toward supporting the zoo, funding a wildlife conservation program, and hosting an exhibit dedicated to the pygmy hippopotamus Mu Deng, who inspired the popular MOODENG memecoin. Buterin has also officially taken Mu Deng under his wing for the next two years.
The donation announced by the Thai zoo director will be paid in two installments: the first installment of 5 million baht will be transferred on December 26. As for the date of the second payment, Buterin said it will be announced later, but the money will be transferred no later than a year after the first payment.
The news of Buterin's donation and temporary "adoption" of the hippo Mu Deng led to a sharp increase in the price of the MOODENG memecoin. Literally two hours after the announcement, the asset's rate doubled.
