Father of "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds": Has not considered incorporating NFT in the metaverse "Artemis", but may integrate blockchain technology

The creator of the online battle royale shooting game "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" (PUBG), Brendan Greene, left the game's development team in 2019 and announced plans to create a new generation of game-centric metaverse "Artemis", although it is unlikely to include NFTs.

In a recent interview with IGN, Greene said that he "hasn't even considered" incorporating NFTs, and his gaming studio PlayerUnkown Productions is currently developing this project.

He added: "What we care about is getting the engine to a state where we can make things in it. As I said, for our second game, we will test ideas but right now, we haven’t even thought about it. It’s more about making some fun games."

Although NFTs may not appear in Greene's metaverse, he said blockchain technology could potentially be integrated at some point.

"Blockchain is an interesting financial tool as a layer in the digital world... perhaps blockchain or hashgraph or future iterations of this technology would be interesting," Greene said. “At its core, it’s a digital ledger; if we can use a digital ledger then we’ll find the best one and use it.”

He also stated that 'metaverse' has become a 'dirty word', rejecting other metaverses creators' actions by saying they have created an "(intellectual property) bubble". These bubbles are made from substandard technologies and fail to live up to their hype: “I think everyone is building IP bubbles which might interact at some stage in the future if lucky enough but that isn’t what constitutes as metaverse.”
