The cryptocurrency world was recently shaken by the announcement of a new memecoin, $STAR10, launched by former soccer player Ronaldinho Gaúcho. The digital currency, which carries the vibrant spirit of the sport in its promises, has already faced serious criticism regarding its security and potential for fraud.
Ronaldinho celebrated the launch of his token in a post on the social network X, highlighting the legendary nature of the initiative.
“My new and ONLY OFFICIAL token is HERE! It’s time to celebrate greatness, passion and that legendary spirit that NEVER fades. 😎Legends aren’t born… THEY ARE FORGED. And YOU can choose to be a part of it. Get your $STAR10 NOW. Let’s make history together!” said the former athlete.

However, the cryptocurrency’s security was soon questioned by prominent industry figures such as former Binance CEO CZ. He shared an alarming post from GoPlus Security, a renowned blockchain security firm, which warned of the inherent dangers of the project. According to GoPlus, the token has mechanisms that allow its owner to burn any holder’s tokens without prior notice, putting everyone’s investments at risk.

GoPlus made a public appeal for Ronaldinho’s team to relinquish ownership of the tokens to protect investors:
"@10Ronaldinho STAR10 coin has a serious security risk! GoPlus discovered that the owner can burn ANY holder's tokens at will. Since ownership has not been relinquished, all tokens are at risk of being destroyed without warning.
FOR @10Ronaldinho Team: Please relinquish ownership immediately to protect your community. To traders: Please exercise extreme caution with this token. @BNBCHAIN please inform users!”
This isn’t the first time that memecoins associated with celebrities have faced trouble. The market has already seen the collapse of several such cryptocurrencies, such as $LIBRA in Argentina, which was linked to the image of President Javier Milei and resulted in huge losses for investors.
The $STAR10 situation raises similar concerns and reinforces the need for caution among cryptocurrency investors. As these tokens grow in popularity, attracted by the promise of high returns and the charisma of well-known figures, the risk of projects without solid fundamentals seems to grow exponentially.
