In an interview with Fortune magazine, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner Hester Peirce stated that while she did not support previous enforcement actions, this does not mean the SEC will cease enforcement under appropriate circumstances. Appointments in the crypto industry should not assume they have a "free pass", otherwise it would label fraud as "cryptocurrency". She also said that the SEC will continue to investigate securities violations under general circumstances. Hester Peirce further stated that the SEC plans to establish its own regulatory framework but declined to provide a timeline. However, she indicated that parts of the plan, such as designing a classification system for crypto securities, are expected to be completed this year.
