SBF's sentence reduced by over 4 years, expected release date set for December 14, 2044

According to a report by Jinse Finance, FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for an $11 billion cryptocurrency fraud case. However, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons has now set his expected release date for December 14, 2044, meaning he will serve less than 21 years. According to Bureau regulations, inmates can receive up to 54 days of sentence reduction per year for good behavior and can further shorten their sentences by participating in specific prison programs. Bankman-Fried is currently held at the low-security FCI-Terminal Island prison in California, after being confirmed to have transferred customer funds to his hedge fund Alameda Research. His former girlfriend, former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison, was also sentenced to two years in prison for her involvement in the scheme and has similarly received a sentence reduction, with an expected release in May 2026.
