The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recently issued a warning to smartphone users to be wary of a nationwide scam in which fraudsters impersonate FBI and other law enforcement officials to deceive victims into sending money. It is reported that the scammers use "spoofed caller ID" technology to disguise their phone numbers as those of the FBI, falsely claiming that the victim will be arrested unless payment is made immediately. The FBI has made it clear that the agency will never request payment over the phone to avoid criminal charges. (Forbes)
