An anonymous Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) investor sold 300 BTC for $29.8 million after holding the coins for more than 11 years, according to Whale Alert.

The investor initially purchased the Bitcoin in 2013 for approximately $60,000, resulting in a roughly 496-fold return on investment.

This transaction highlights the long-term growth potential of Bitcoin as an asset class.

Over the past decade, Bitcoin’s price has surged by more than 40,600%, significantly outperforming traditional assets such as gold, which rose 189%, the S&P 500 with a 116% gain, and oil prices that increased by 60%, according to TradingView data.

Other cryptocurrency investors have also realised substantial profits by holding digital assets over extended periods.

For example, in December 2024, an investor made $52 million from an initial $27 investment in the memecoin Pepe after holding it for over 600 days, representing a return of more than 1.9 million times the original amount.

Despite these gains, Bitcoin’s price has recently experienced downward pressure amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The cryptocurrency dropped to a six-week low of $98,240 on Sunday following U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear sites.

U.S. President Donald Trump warned of further strikes unless Iran agrees to peace, Reuters reported.

Since June 13, Israel and Iran have engaged in strategic missile exchanges, marking the largest conflict between the two nations since the 1980s Iran-Iraq War.

Meanwhile, U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have continued accumulating Bitcoin despite geopolitical concerns, with over $1 billion in cumulative net inflows over the past week, according to Sosovalue data.

However, ETF inflows slowed to $6.4 million on Friday, with BlackRock accounting for $46.9 million of purchases.

At the time of reporting, the Bitcoin (BTC) price was $105,450.
