Snap has introduced the next iteration of its Snap OS, the platform that powers its AR eyewear, Snap Spectacles. This update brings features such as a refreshed built-in browser, integrated WebXR compatibility, and more enhancements. The announcement follows the company’s release of its fifth-generation Snap Spectacles to developers last year, with a consumer launch expected in 2026.
The news arrives just before Meta’s Connect event, where Meta is anticipated to showcase its latest developments in smart eyewear, artificial intelligence, and other tech advancements.
According to Snap, Snap OS 2.0 delivers a new browser that is quicker and simpler to operate. The software now boasts improved page loading speeds and better energy efficiency for smoother browsing.
Users will also notice a redesigned home screen featuring widgets and bookmarks, along with an upgraded toolbar that allows you to enter or speak website addresses, view browsing history, and reload pages. In addition, window resizing is now possible, similar to what you’d expect on a laptop.

The update also introduces a new Spotlight Lens that overlays digital elements onto the physical environment. This means users could, for example, watch videos from their favorite creators while doing chores like washing dishes.
“The vertical field of view in our Spectacles perfectly matches vertical videos, making it easy to watch content without needing to glance down at your phone,” Snap shared in a recent blog post. “You can pin Spotlight to a spot in your space, or have it move with you as you walk around.”
Image Credits:Snap Snap is also introducing a Gallery Lens, making it more convenient to revisit and share your memorable moments. This feature displays your Spectacles recordings in an interactive format, allowing you to scroll through a carousel, organize favorites, and easily share them with friends or post to your Story.
There’s also a new Travel Mode which helps stabilize AR visuals and tracking when you’re in transit, whether by car or on a plane.
