Waymo is entering the business travel sector

Waymo’s ambitions for its autonomous taxi service are now reaching into the business sector.

The self-driving division owned by Alphabet has introduced “Waymo for Business,” a platform that enables companies to create accounts so their staff can use robotaxis in cities such as Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Francisco.

In a blog post published Wednesday, Waymo shared that it is now welcoming organizations to enroll in Waymo for Business. This offering allows companies to cover the cost of employee rides or buy large quantities of promo codes, which can be distributed to workers, clients, or customers. Pricing for Waymo for Business rides will match that of its standard service.

Carvana, an online used car retailer based in Phoenix, is among the first to use the new service.

Although many people already use Waymo’s autonomous taxis for commuting, this marks the company’s initial organized push to serve corporate and institutional clients. According to Waymo, about one out of every six local riders in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Phoenix depends on Waymo for their daily commute to work or school.

Currently, users request rides through the Waymo app—or in some cities like Austin, via the Uber app. This process will remain unchanged for employees whose companies participate in Waymo for Business. The difference lies in the level of oversight companies can exercise over the service.

With Waymo for Business, organizations gain access to a dedicated business portal, allowing them to manage their ride programs. Corporate clients can specify the areas where employees may use the robotaxis, determine pickup and drop-off points, oversee ride usage, and monitor spending.

Waymo has announced intentions to expand its business-focused service to additional cities, including Washington, DC and Miami, once commercial operations are underway there.

Over the last year and a half, Waymo has accelerated its growth, becoming the leading robotaxi provider in the country. Its commercial reach now spans from Phoenix to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Austin, and Atlanta, with more locations planned for 2026.

In addition to broadening its service area, Waymo has pursued other strategies to attract users. The company now serves Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, San Jose Mineta International Airport, and will soon operate at San Francisco Airport, offering a key service that rivals Uber and Lyft. Waymo has also teamed up with public transit provider Via and has started allowing teenagers to use its robotaxis through a parent’s account.
