Romanian regulator blacklists Polymarket for unlicensed operations

金色财经2025/11/01 01:18

On November 1, it was reported that the Romanian National Gambling Office (ONJN) blacklisted the prediction market platform Polymarket on Thursday, citing its operation without a license. ONJN classified betting activities on Polymarket as counterparty betting rather than trading. In Romania, gambling operations are a state monopoly, and operators must apply for and obtain a license from the National Gambling Office before conducting business. ONJN chairman Vlad-Cristian Soare stated: "The decision to blacklist Polymarket is not about technology, but about the law. Whether you bet in leu or cryptocurrency, if you are betting on future outcomes under counterparty betting conditions, we are talking about gambling that requires a license."
