Picking narratives, sectors, and tokens. How do I decide where to focus: Statement of quoted post: “The harsh reality is that right now, to pick a promising token, you need to understand web3 technologies that have a future.” Understanding the tech behind projects, and spotting what makes them stand out, is one way, yes. Honestly, I don’t get any of it. I’m not tech-savvy and feel lucky every morning just turning my Mac on. Reasoning behind my hits this cycle, and some ways to decide where to focus: 1. Solana ($15-$35) / Trying things out & logical thinking: Was active in the Solana ecosystem and noticed a few things: → Chain was extremely easy to use, normie-friendly, and more appealing for newer users. (+ cheap gas after ETH priced many out) → Users were different: Where on Ethereum it was mainly more tech-savvy crypto OGs, the new people on Solana were younger, and let's call it respectfully, sneaker trading kids. → These communities didn't care about anything else in Crypto than Solana. → These communities survived the bear and were still alive → The infrastructure was already there — if they caught new users last cycle, why wouldn’t they do it again now with a much better setup after a full cycle of building? (lack of new options) / Technicals and strength: → Solana was one of the first established tokens to run behind Bitcoin and reclaim the range lows → Showing a lot of strength relative to others → Market tipping its hand on what it likes. → Outperformers continue to do what they do well; outperform / Attention: → Solana was still getting a lot of attention. Yes, it was mainly negative at the bottom, but: → People tend to focus on and see the negatives of something when prices are at the bottom, while ignoring the good things. When prices are going up, it's going to be the opposite; the existing attention will easily flip and focus on the good things. / Metrics: → User activity was still massive 2. MEMEs / Relative strength as a sector: → Runners like WIF and PEPE early on in the cycle → PUMPFUN success as platform Easy to track metrics and charts to spot outperformance and the market's attention/interest. 3. SocialFi A new and relatively random concept. / Trying things out: → Saw FriendTech a few hours after it launched, and a lot of big accounts jumping on it. → Tried it out and it was, first of all, easy to find an edge there (trading-wise, almost nothing earned with being a big account) → Made a good amount + airdrop → More interesting, it put me early on newer platforms like the Arena on Avalanche and again an edge + good airdrop. For the future, early trends can easily come back later in the cycle. So, I'm still low-key interested in SocialFi + memes even though these sectors might be taking a break right now. 4. HYPE / Revenue, attention, and strength → Very obvious buy in April around $10-15 when the whole market was dipping, and my setup trigger went off. → Felt a bit like Solana earlier this cycle; super profitable platform, chain, and a big community. → Had a lot of mindshare → But dipped with the rest of the cycle → The early strength when the market recovered confirmed this to me. 5. Stablecoin growth + Ethereum Bought CRV sub $0.50, AAVE sub $130, and ENA more recently around $0.44. Stablecoin sector metrics: → Extreme growth this cycle → Legally, a lot of positive changes → Real use case for Crypto → Not many ways to directly bet on it → What projects benefit from stablecoin growth? → DeFi projects that utilize stablecoins will do well? / Attention: → Started to see more stablecoin attention on the timeline → Plasma 1B deposits in the blink of an eye. / Ethereum bottom: → Ethereum reclaimed the range low while Dominance hit its point in the cycle where it historically turned → Expected Ethereum to bottom, and expected a focus shift on different (eth-based) projects + DeFi as the most obvious bet Decided to go for CRV, AAVE, and ENA as they're a nice mix. 6. Real-world attention: / Last cycle Metaverse: → In the last cycle, Facebook changed its name to Meta and started building a Metaverse. → Last cycle, everyone was locked inside because of COVID, and MetaVerses sparked real-world attention. → Crypto is an easy way for 'normal' people to bet on real-world attention. → Makes the meta/sector more sustainable in Crypto because people in the real world have a bit of a longer timespan lol / This cycle: → Still think AI in Crypto will continue to thrive because of the real-world interest. Just some examples of how you can find the sectors to focus on. You don't necessarily need technical knowledge. Focusing on strength and attention will bring you very far already. You can hold on to the projects you like, but that doesn't mean the market will like them. If the market hasn't shown any interest in your tokens or sectors, why would it when we continue this bull market?
