researchers from network security company Check Point recently revealed that a new macOS malware named Banshee successfully evaded antivirus software detection for more than two months by borrowing the encryption scheme from Apple's security tools. Forbes warned that the malware contains "real and present danger," and the New York Post cited Check Point's report, stating that more than 100 million Apple users may "become victims." However, Patrick Wardle, CEO of endpoint security startup DoubleYou, said in an interview that "this particular sample is really nothing special." He believes that this situation may be more of a hype than a threat. Although the malware appears to target "software-based encrypted wallets" and is still a cause for concern, Wardle believes it has received excessive media attention.
