And with just your email address, we're able to leak all your private information,” Muyamura notes, adding, “Remember, AI may be super-smart, but it can be tricked and phished in incredibly silly ways to leak its data.” Buterin shared the post on his X account and took the opportunity to give his opinion on the matter. “This is also why naive 'AI governance' is a bad idea. If you use AI to allocate funds for contributions, people will jailbreak and 'give me all the money' as many places as they can,” he said. “AI governance” refers to systems that make automated decisions about resources or actions, for example, allocating funds or defining contributions, based on AI rules. Buterin doesn’t use the term “naive” as a coincidence; instead, it underscores the risk of assuming that users will always give the AI ​​the right commands, when in reality, they could exploit the system through “jailbreaks” to circumvent restrictions and gain undue benefits. It's worth clarifying that "jailbreaking" refers to techniques by which hackers trick an AI model into ignoring security restrictions or internal policies, for example, requesting actions that would otherwise be prohibited. That is, for the Ethereum founder, there is a real risk in transferring the governance of decentralized protocols to AI. For example, as explained in in DeFi platforms, decisions are usually made through community votes, generally by those who own a token or meet a specific criterion, and include changes, improvements, or actions to be taken in the protocol. But if an AI-based governance model is implemented, it opens the door to potential manipulations that could generate undue benefits, such as theft of money or private data. As an alternative, Buterin states that he "supports the information funding approach, in which there is an open market where anyone can contribute their models, which are subject to a peer-review mechanism that can be activated by anyone and evaluated by a human jury." He further explains: This type of "institutional design" approach, in which an open opportunity is created for outsiders to plug in their LLMs (large language models) rather than rigidly programming their own, is inherently more robust. This is both because it provides real-time model diversity and because it creates internal incentives for both model contributors and outside speculators to be alert to these problems and correct them quickly.
