Astar Network is a smart contracts platform that offers true interoperability and a Build2Earn model for developers. It addresses issues of scalability, interoperability, and lack of developer incentive in the blockchain industry. The network aims to provide a platform where developers can build dApps without having to worry about infrastructure and scalability.
Astar Network was released on Polkadot in 2019 as Plasm. The project had a rebrand to Astar in 2021.
Astar is a dapp platform that supports both Wasm and EVM smart contracts. It also allows hybrid Cross-VM dApps to be able to call into one another. The network provides native access to the Polkadot ecosystem through its parachain slot, and has asset bridges as well as general message passing protocols integrated with other major blockchains such as Ethereum and BSC.
Astar uses Substrate, a framework that simplifies building custom blockchain solutions using Rust programming language. Substrate's modular architecture allows developers to use only the components they need to support their applications, and offers benefits like seamless integration with other blockchains, forkless upgrades, and light client-friendly deterministic finality. By using Substrate, Astar can easily interface with the Polkadot network directly without intermediaries. The dapp staking program of Astar allows developers to earn a basic income while they build out their products and communities.
ASTR is the main native token of the network. It is used for governance, staking, and facilitating transactions.
ASTR has a total supply of 7,000,000,000 and a circulating supply of 4,269,541,776.
