Driftl: The April 1 attack was a long-term infiltration operation orchestrated by a North Korean hacker group
According to Odaily, Drift Protocol posted on the X platform, stating that a preliminary investigation into the April 1, 2026 attack showed that the operation was orchestrated by the North Korean government-backed hacker organization UNC4736 (also known as AppleJeus or Citrine Sleet). Since autumn 2025, this group interacted face-to-face with Drift contributors for as long as six months by sending intermediaries to attend crypto conferences and establishing fake quantitative trading companies, luring contributors into downloading malicious code repositories or applications. Currently, Drift has frozen all protocol functionalities and removed affected wallets from multi-signature setups. Mandiant has been invited to participate in an in-depth forensic investigation. The investigation confirmed that the on-chain funds used to test this operation can be traced back to the Radiant Capital attacker from October 2024.
