Starbucks accused by union of lacking sincerity, negotiations stall after resuming talks a year later
Glonghui April 10th|The Starbucks union has filed a complaint with the US National Labor Relations Board, accusing the company of lacking sincerity in negotiations, indicating that progress has been slow since the talks resumed after a one-year hiatus. Workers United, which represents employees of approximately 600 stores, submitted documents on Wednesday alleging that the company has backtracked this week on seven topics where initial consensus had been reached and has introduced punitive clauses unacceptable to the union, calling into question the company's intent to reach an agreement. Starbucks responded on Thursday stating that it has consistently participated in negotiations in good faith and has put forward a comprehensive plan covering wages and benefits. Given that the business environment has changed significantly since the last round of negotiations, it is reasonable to adjust the proposals.
