According to The Block, a judge in Texas, USA ruled that the US Energy Information Administration must temporarily suspend an emergency investigation aimed at measuring the power consumption of cryptocurrency mining companies.
Judge Alan Albright of the Western District of Texas' Waco division issued a temporary restraining order last Friday. Prior to this, the Texas Blockchain Council and Bitcoin mining company Riot Platforms sued the Department of Energy, claiming that the investigation was the product of "careless official procedures."
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) - the statistical and analytical agency of the Department of Energy - announced earlier this month that it would begin investigating cryptocurrency mining companies. It previously requested "emergency data collection" and cited the recent rise in Bitcoin prices as evidence of the urgency of the request.
The EIA claims that as the scale of cryptocurrency mining expands, people are becoming increasingly concerned about its potential impact on the US electricity industry.
