The term of office of Eddie Yue Wai-man, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, will expire within this year after serving for five years. According to sources, the government is considering allowing Yue to continue his position as Chief Executive after his current term expires in early October. Sources indicate that the 59-year-old Yue is considered a stable figure and relatively young. They added that this decision is not final and may still change. The term of office for the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority is generally five years. Bloomberg quotes government and HKMA spokespersons as stating in written statements that appointments and reappointments at the HKMA will be handled according to established procedures and will be announced at the appropriate time.
