Lido: Q1 Geth client usage dropped from 67.1% to 46.6%
PANews reported on May 25 that according to Unchained, the Ethereum liquidity staking protocol Lido has significantly increased the diversity of its execution clients. Usage of Go Ethereum (Geth), the most popular execution client among validators run by Lido node operators, dropped in the first quarter of 2024 from 67.1% in the previous quarter, according to a report released by Lido on Wednesday. The final 46.6%.
Geth's alternative execution clients, Besu and Nethermind, have both seen growth since last quarter. More than a third of validators run by Lido node operators use Nethermind as the execution client, up from 23.2% in Q4 2023, while Besu’s share doubled from 6.9% last quarter more, reaching 14.6% in the first quarter of 2024.
Lido’s usage of Geth has been declining every quarter since Q3 2022. At the time, almost all validators run by Lido node operators were using Geth, which posed a risk to the security of Ethereum itself, especially if a vulnerability was discovered in the supermajority client.
