BlockTower Capital Founder: the U.S. SEC Is Expanding Its Cryptocurrency Crackdown
The SEC's action against venture capital means the agency is expanding its crackdown on cryptocurrencies, said the founder of BlockTower Capital, whose chief investment officer, Ari Paul, also said Wednesday on the Unchained podcast that the SEC has launched "a series of targeted VC firms acting as unregistered securities dealers in a series of investigations" into discount token deals that some venture capital firms have struck with cryptocurrency projects that put them in violation of the regulator's strict securities laws, a development that would mark the latest escalation in the SEC's crackdown on the digital asset industry.
