  • Tornado Cash developer has appealed for more donations.
  • The funds raised will offset the costs of his appeal.
  • The developer is currently detained by Dutch authorities.

Tornado Cash co-founder Alexey Pertsev is seeking donations to fund a “costly appeal” against a May 14 ruling by a Netherlands court, which found him guilty of money laundering.

The Dutch court sentenced Pertsev to 64 months in prison, a verdict that sent shock waves across the crypto industry, leaving many outraged . Adding to this misery, the 31-year-old Russian developer remains incarcerated by Dutch authorities after his bail request to prepare for the appeals process was denied on July 12.

Pertsev Requests Funding for the Appeal

In a recent X (Twitter) post , the support account for Pertsev and Roman Storm appealed for donations on behalf of the developer, noting that he was facing an expensive appeal against a “government willing to use all of their resources to persecute him.”

“It's time to take a stand with Alexey and fight for what's right,” the post read. “He is in urgent need of an additional $750k-1M USD to cover ongoing legal fees. We're grateful for the support so far, but we still need more help”

The post said users could donate to the cause in two ways. This includes using fiat or Ether via WeWantJusticeDAO, or ETH via Juicebox, a programmable funding platform for crypto and web3. Users who opt for Juicebox will stand a chance to grab an exclusive NFT.

The crypto community has rallied behind the campaign, raising 15.35 ETH via Juicebox as of press time. This included an anonymous donation of 5 ETH from one user.
