Two Brothers Suspected of Stealing $25 Million in Cryptocurrency Using MEV Bots to Go on Trial in 2025
Two brothers, Anton and James Peraire-Bueno, are set to stand trial in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on October 14, 2025 for allegedly stealing $25 million in cryptocurrency through the use of Maximum Extractable Value (MEV) bots. They are charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering, and other offenses. According to the Department of Justice, the brothers illegally obtained cryptocurrency in just 12 seconds and hid assets through shell companies and foreign exchanges. Both have now been released on $250,000 bail with travel restrictions. If convicted, they could face up to 20 years in prison for each charge.
