TON Meme Coins Surge 98% With Resistance Dog (REDO) Leading The Charge After Arrest Of Telegram’s Pavel Durov In France
The market capitalization for TON meme coins surged 98% over the past 24 hours with Resistance Dog (REDO) leading the charge following the arrest of Telegram’s founder Pavel Durov in France.
During the past day of trading, the REDO price skyrocketed more than 180% to trade at $0.7733 as of 1:15 a.m. EST. Other resistance-themed tokens including Resistance Girl (REGI), The Resistance Cat ($RECA) and Resistance Notcoin (RENO) were among the biggest 24-hour gainers in the TON meme coin ecosystem.
Tensions Rise Between Russia And France After The Arrest Of Pavel Durov
Some Russian officials have “reacted angrily” to the arrest of the Telegram founder and CEO. They have also described the arrest as an indirect hostile act against Russia, according to a Wall Street Journal report .
A statement released on Aug. 25 by the Russian Embassy in France alleges that authorities are refusing to respond to their attempts to gain access to Durov. “As of today, the French side has so far avoided engaging on this issue. We are in contact with P.V. Durov’s lawyer,” the Embassy said in their statement .
French officials are expected to address the arrest in a statement today, according to NPR .
Rumble CEO Departs Europe And Vitalik Buterin Raises Communications Freedom Concerns
Chris Pavlovski, the CEO of Rumble, said in an Aug. 25 X post that he has “departed from Europe” following Durov’s arrest and threats his company has received from French authorities. He said that authorities have “crossed a red line” by arresting the Telegram CEO for reportedly not censoring speech.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin also commented on Durov’s arrest in an X post of his own. He raised concerns about the future of software and communications freedom in Europe, calling the situation “very bad.”
