Ethereum developers are considering implementing the Pectra upgrade in two stages, with the first upgrade expected to be completed by February next year
On September 13th, Christine Kim, the Deputy Director of Galaxy Research, summarized the 196th Ethereum Core Developer Meeting (ACDE) today and stated that Ethereum developers are seriously considering implementing the Pectra upgrade in two stages. Previously, this idea was discussed but rejected due to concerns about delaying the Verkle fork. In today's conference call, developers once again proposed this idea and discussed the possibility of adding more EIPs to Pectra. Developers insist that if the upgrade is split into two parts, the first upgrade can be implemented in February next year covering all EIPs on Devnet3 including EIP-7251, EIP-7702, EIP-6110 etc. The second upgrade will include EOF and PeerDAS as well as an increase in Blob numbers; it may also incorporate some other long-discussed EIPs such as SSZ. The name for this second upgrade has not yet been determined; developers expect to make a final decision at their next ACD conference call.
