Trump buys burgers with Bitcoin at New York crypto bar
Former U.S. President Donald Trump made a notable appearance at PubKey, a crypto-themed bar in New York City, on Wednesday, where he completed a Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) transaction to purchase burgers.
With the assistance of PubKey staff, Trump became the first sitting or former U.S. president to publicly use the Bitcoin network.
The visit took place before his rally in Long Island, and a video shared by Fox News captured the moment Trump made his Bitcoin purchase.
This event is part of Trump’s recent engagement with the cryptocurrency industry, which has become more visible in recent months.
He has spoken at crypto-related events and expressed support for the industry.
Trump has also made statements about his intentions to boost the U.S. cryptocurrency sector if elected president in 2024.
PubKey, a spot frequented by crypto enthusiasts, shared news of Trump’s Bitcoin transaction on its social media platforms.
The visit came just days after Trump publicly endorsed World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency project that he and several of his children are involved with.
The project launched earlier this week and announced the creation of a governance token called WLFI.
Trump’s increased involvement with the cryptocurrency space has drawn attention as he prepares for his third presidential run.
He has attended industry events and discussed the potential role of blockchain and decentralized finance (DeFi) in his economic plans.
At press time, the Bitcoin (BTC) price was $62,151.85.
