Inception Capital Founder Resurfaces After Months of Disappearance, Agrees to Relinquish Some Key Responsibilities

David Gan, the founder of Inception Capital, disappeared for several months last May after he told investors that his father was under investigation and had traveled to China, according to Fortune.

During that time, investors were upset by his “disappearance” and voted to close the fund, but Gan resurfaced at the end of June, agreeing to relinquish some of his key responsibilities, and said that the fund was doing well and that he had resumed his day-to-day duties.

Gan was named to the Asia's 30 Under 30 list in 2019 for his work as managing director at Firecoin Labs. He left Firecoin in 2021 to raise his first $50 million venture capital fund backed by such luminaries as Bill Ackman, Alan Howard, Y Combinator CEO Garry Tan, and Galaxy, and closed a second $30 million parent fund in 2024. Inception has close to $100 million in assets under management, according to SEC filings.
