Vitalik Buterin Explores the Value and Support of Independent Pledgers for the Ethernet Network
On September 24th, Vitalik Buterin, Co-Founder of EtherNetwork, shared excerpts from a fireside chat at the Home Staking Summit in Singapore, discussing the real value of independent pledgers to the network and L1's support measures.
Vitalik emphasized that independent pledgers are the “first line of defense” and “last line of defense” for the ethereum network, providing censorship resistance and protecting the network.
He noted that independent pledgers are not associated with large organizations and are difficult to capture or coerce by regulation, enhancing the trusted neutrality of Ethernet.
Vitalik discussed the possibility of raising the consensus threshold (e.g., from 67% to 85%) to enhance network security, but also noted that this could create new challenges.
He suggests reallocating resources to better defend against more serious attacks and emphasizes the importance of increasing the number of independent pledgers.
In addition, he explores possible measures that the Ethernet Base Layer (L1) could take to better support and encourage independent pledges.
