Kamala Harris Engages Cryptocurrency Community in Opportunity Economy Agenda

Kamala Harris Engages Cryptocurrency Community in Opportunity Economy Agenda

U.S. presidential candidate and current Vice President Kamala Harris is actively engaging with the cryptocurrency community as part of her “Opportunity Economy” agenda, according to Cointelegraph, and on October 14th she plans to meet with a group of black entrepreneurs in Erie, Pennsylvania. entrepreneurs in Erie, Pennsylvania on October 14th. At the event, Harris plans to discuss her support for black-owned small businesses, cryptocurrency and digital asset regulation, and the federal legalization of marijuana.

Harris campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond said the initiative is part of Harris' commitment to the “opportunity economy. Richmond emphasized that Harris' goal is to gain the support of black men by promising to build an economic system where black men have the tools to grow, buy homes, raise families, start businesses and build wealth. This marks a shift in Harris' image, which since she began her campaign has been seen less as part of the anti-cryptocurrency regime.

Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen donated approximately $1 million worth of XRP to the Harris-Walz 2024 presidential campaign, leading some to believe that Harris is a pro-cryptocurrency candidate willing to work on bipartisan legislation to regulate digital assets and the cryptocurrency industry. However, not everyone in the community believes in what Harris calls the “cryptocurrency pivot”.

Documents on Harris' campaign website related to the Erie, Pennsylvania, event are worded slightly differently, implying that people who own cryptocurrencies will be protected. This means that her plan includes protecting the ownership of cryptocurrency, not limiting or eliminating it. The document states, “Support a regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies and other digital assets so that black men who invest in and own these assets are protected.”
