Insider: Harris's team is considering two candidates to succeed Gary Gensler, the chairman of the U.S. SEC
According to Unchained, two informed sources involved in the deliberation revealed that the transition team of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris is reviewing candidates to succeed Gary Gensler as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The two possible successors are Chris Brummer, a professor at Georgetown University Law Center, and Erica Williams, chairwoman of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). They are said to be more optimistic about cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin than Gensler.
Harris has not publicly or privately committed to replacing Gensle, and it's uncertain how much she is considering Brummer, Williams or other potential candidates. Currently, due to her short tenure as a candidate and unresolved policy issues, her team is more focused on voting matters.
One insider said: "It's unclear who is currently favored. The Harris campaign team worries that if they show too positive an attitude towards cryptocurrency before the election, they will lose votes from progressive voters who think cryptocurrency is a 'scam', while also not winning any new actual voters."
A spokesperson for Harris' transition team stated: "The transition team will not make any personnel selections before the election; instead we're focusing on building necessary infrastructure in preparation for inauguration."
