After the founder of LayerZero proposed his contract issue, it was suggested to limit the token supply

PANews reported on October 22 that, following criticism from LayerZero Labs CEO Bryan Pellegrino, Across Protocol co-founder Hart Lambur proposed on Monday evening to permanently limit the supply of ACX tokens to one billion.

If this proposal is approved by the Across community, it will also relinquish all ownership of the ACX token by Across Governance and set it to 0x0 - preventing any future changes to the token supply through minting or destruction.

Previously, Pellegrino had pointed out "serious issues" with the Across token contract. However, this move was opposed by the community who believed it was more a transparency issue rather than a security flaw.

Pellegrino stated: "You have wrongly exposed internal private functions written in OpenZeppelin's ERC-20 token implementation (used for destroying tokens) and handed them over to your contract owner - allowing you at any time to withdraw (destroy) tokens from any wallet and arbitrarily zero out any account." He also claimed that contracts under Cross Protocol and UMA Protocol could infinitely mint tokens. To solve this problem he suggested transferring ownership into an immutable smart contract which would prevent minting beyond total supply, disallow destruction and prohibit transfer of ownership.

Lambur initially refuted Pellegrino's allegations but later admitted that although Pellegrino was wrong about serious flaws in its ERC-20 implementation, his "design choice was wrong". He added that this proposal was made in a spirit of decentralization and transparency. Currently voting is underway for temperature check on this proposal with results showing 99.5% favor setting an upper limit on supply.
