FT: Fed May Cut Rates Quickly Next Year If Harris Wins
The FT team recently updated its forecasts for the Fed's interest rate outlook, predicting that if Harris wins the election, the Fed may cut rates quickly next year. Following a 50 basis point rate cut in September, the Fed may cut rates twice more in 2024 at a pace of 25 basis points, the analysis said. The Fed will cut rates by a total of 100 basis points by the end of this year, reducing the funds rate to 4.25-4.5 per cent. This is consistent with the Fed's September summary of economic projections.
If Harris wins the U.S. presidential election, the Fed will cut rates three more times in the first half of 2025, each time by 25 basis points, reducing the policy rate to 3.5-3.75 per cent.
