Philadelphia Commissioner Seth Bluestein said he believes that the vote counting speed for the 2024 election cycle will be faster than in 2020. Bluestein said, "After the polling station opened at 7 a.m. this morning, we began to pre-count mail-in ballots, and our counting speed will be much faster than in 2020. Many people have already voted in person, so there will be fewer mail-in ballots to count this year than in 2020. In addition, Philadelphia has purchased additional equipment this year to help open envelopes faster, and there are also more staff than in the past."
