CEO of the Toronto-based company WonderFi, Dean Skurka was kidnapped for a $1 million ransom. A recent report by CBC has revealed the CEO was held in downtown Toronto during the Wednesday rush hour.

Just before 6 PM, the cops were alerted about a kidnapping near Richmond Street and University Avenue. The suspects forced Skurka to get into a vehicle and then released him after he made a payment of $1 million electronically.

The CEO has recently stated that he is now safe, and the company’s funds have not been impacted by this incident. The company owns almost all of the regulated Canadian exchanges, according to a statement released in November 2023.

Who are the kidnappers?

However, the police have not yet released more details about the kidnappers, and further investigation is underway.

This is not the first time that criminals have held someone for ransom in exchange for cryptocurrencies. For instance, earlier in July, a Bitcoin investor was killed in a kidnapping. In that particular incident, four men were involved, and they stole three BTC, which were then worth $200,00.

This is a developing story.
