Trump and ABC reach settlement in defamation lawsuit
It was learned on the 14th local time that ABC agreed to pay $15 million for a defamation lawsuit filed by President-elect Trump against a well-known host of the station. This fee will be paid to the foundation and library that Trump will establish in the future. According to the settlement document released on the same day, ABC will also post a statement on its website expressing "regret" for host Stephanopoulos's remarks on his show. In this lawsuit, Trump accused Stephanopoulos of repeatedly claiming on TV shows that Trump was found guilty of "raping" female writer Carroll. Trump believes this has damaged his reputation. According to a federal jury in May 2023, it was determined that Trump sexually assaulted and defamed Carroll but did not commit rape.
