WazirX Status Report by Delhi Police Trashed by Delhi HC
Delhi High Court has pulled up Delhi Police for their lack of interest in any investigation against WazirX management.
In the latest development in the WazirX hack case, the Delhi High Court has trashed the Delhi police status report on a petition filed against WazirX management, wherein the police had said no case can be made.
On October 18, the Delhi High Court had accepted a petition filed by Advocate Jaivir Bains (Jaivir Bains vs FIU & ORS) demanding a criminal investigation into the WazirX hack. A single bench of the Delhi High Court led by Justice Sanjeev Narula had asked for a status report from the Delhi Police IFSO (Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations) on the hack.
On Wednesday the Delhi police submitted a status report in the petition stating that no case can be made out from the complaint of Adv. Jaivir. Justice Sanjeev Narula trashed the status report of Delhi police and asked the concerned deputy commissioner of police to file a fresh status report by February 13, 2025. The next court hearing date is fixed for the same date.
According to highly placed sources, the petition filed by advocate Jaivir had mentioned that WazirX management had transferred ₹600 crores (approximately $72 million) of user funds to the bybit exchange, a Chinese exchange not registered in India, after the July 18 hack. Adv Jaivir had also demanded an investigation against Wazirx management operations even before the July 18 hack.
Today’s court proceedings have shown that the Delhi High Court has not given any clean chit to WazirX and demanded a fresh investigation by the Police.
