Celsius Network appeals after its $2 billion defamation claim against FTX is dismissed
According to CryptoSlate, Celsius Network filed an appeal with the local court on December 31, 2024, challenging Judge John Dorsey's dismissal of its $2 billion defamation claim against FTX. Celsius alleges that false statements by FTX executives and affiliates damaged its reputation and accelerated its bankruptcy in July 2022.
Initially, Celsius brought a $2 billion claim for "unfounded and defamatory statements", but it was opposed by FTX due to insufficient evidence and not falling within the scope of bankruptcy claims. In December 2024, Celsius amended the claim amount to $444 million, focusing on recovering part of the payments made to FTX before bankruptcy. However, Judge Dorsey dismissed both the original and revised claims due to procedural defects, pointing out that Celsius did not obtain court approval to amend the claim.
