Long-running Ethereum newsletter shutting down, cites lack of funding from the Ethereum Foundation
Quick Take “Week in Ethereum” is winding down due to diminished financial support. The newsletter dates back to August 2016.

The long-running Ethereum newsletter "Week in Ethereum" is winding down due to, it claims, diminished financial support from the Ethereum Foundation.
"Over the rest of 2024, WiE received a minuscule amount of financial support from the Ethereum Foundation," Evan Van Ness wrote in a post that was shared on X. "It was mostly symbolic," he said, adding that "EF leadership chose to cut off this tiny but of support knowing that WiE would immediately end."
"There is no clearer way to be told that it's time for WiE to end than EF withdrawing support," he said.
Van Ness noted that Week in Ethereum ultimately failed to find a business model, citing ads and sponsorships being "a tough sell as marketing directors do not value devs."
The well-known Ethereum-focused newsletter's archives date back to August 21, 2016 — before Bitcoin, let alone Ethereum, was on the mainstream's radar.
Many in the Ethereum community have not taken the news kindly. Cantina and SpearbitDAO cofounder Hari wrote that the Ethereum Foundation's decision to cut funding to the newsletter is a "very bizarre" one to make while the blockchain "is losing developer talent" — a common sentiment from others involved in the Ethereum ecosystem.
The Block contacted the Ethereum Foundation and Week in Ethereum's editor for comment.
