Security Company: Malicious software encryption scams on Telegram are more rampant than traditional phishing on the internet

According to The Block, blockchain security company Scam Sniffer stated on platform X that the number of Telegram malware scams targeting cryptocurrency investors has surpassed traditional phishing attacks. Data shows that from November 2024 to January this year, scam cases enticing investors to join malicious Telegram groups surged by 2000%, while traditional phishing methods remained at regular levels.

Scam Sniffer pointed out that the new Telegram scam method is more complex and is no longer limited to impersonating cryptocurrency influencers but targets legitimate cryptocurrency project communities on the platform through seemingly safe invitations. Attackers distribute malware through fake verification bots, trading groups, airdrop groups, and "exclusive" insider groups. When users fall into a false verification process, malicious code will be injected into the clipboard and execute after downloading malware, thereby stealing victims' passwords, cryptocurrency wallets and browser data.

The company emphasized that attackers adopt this strategy because users are more vigilant against known cryptocurrency scams while malware has expanded its impact range through Telegram. Scam Sniffer reminds users: any legitimate cryptocurrency service will not ask you to execute commands, install verification software or run scripts in your clipboard.
