Dean Norris, recognised for his role as Hank Schrader in Breaking Bad, recently experienced a significant security breach when his X account was hacked to promote a fraudulent memecoin.

The hackers utilised his likeness to endorse a token named DEAN, which briefly surged to a market cap exceeding $8 million before collapsing.

In a video posted on January 26, Norris confirmed the hack and labeled the memecoin a “complete, fake scam.”

“Go fuck yourselves,” he expressed frustration towards users on Reddit who criticised him for the incident.

Despite the original promotional posts being removed, screenshots circulated online showing a doctored image of Norris endorsing the coin.

One such post featured a manipulated video of Norris claiming the coin was legitimate, which some users speculated could have been created using deepfake technology.

Blockchain data indicates that DEAN's value plummeted by over 96% shortly after Norris’s announcement.

In follow-up statements, Norris clarified that he was unaware of the hack until friends alerted him about the situation.

“I didn’t know I was hacked until I started getting texts from friends saying it’s out there,” he remarked.

This incident marks the second time Norris's account has been compromised for cryptocurrency schemes.

Previously, in November, his account was linked to multiple takeovers involving other celebrities and brands.

The recent hacking incident highlights ongoing vulnerabilities in social media accounts and the potential for scams in the cryptocurrency space.

“I WAS HACKED!!! ALL A FAKE SCAM!!” Norris noted.

The actor's experience serves as a cautionary tale for social media users regarding account security and the risks associated with cryptocurrency promotions.
