Arizona Senate Committee Greenlights Bitcoin Reserve Bill

If the full Senate approves it, the proposal will then move to the House of Representatives.

Arizona is stepping into the future by considering Bitcoin and other digital currencies as a way to grow its public funds. On January 27, the state Senate Finance Committee approved a bill that would allow the state to invest in Bitcoin.

The bill, known as the Arizona Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Act (SB1025) , was passed with a 5-2 vote. It was co-sponsored by Senators Wendy Rogers and Jeff Weninger and would let the state invest up to 10% of its public funds, including those held by the state treasurer and pension systems in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

If it becomes law, the bill would also allow the state to store these digital assets securely, potentially in a federal Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, if one is established by the U.S. Treasury Secretary. Arizona could become the first state in the country to officially invest public funds in Bitcoin.

Next, the bill will go to the Senate Rules Committee, which will prepare it for debate. If the full Senate approves it, the proposal will then move to the House of Representatives.

This move is part of a growing trend among U.S. states looking into Bitcoin as a way to diversify their financial portfolios. According to Dennis Porter, CEO of the Satoshi Action Fund, Arizona is the first state to pass a Bitcoin reserve bill through a legislative committee. Right now, 11 states have introduced similar Bitcoin-related bills.

The bill’s progress follows the recent confirmation of Scott Bessent as Treasury Secretary , a known supporter of Bitcoin. If Arizona’s bill passes, it could set a trend for other states exploring how digital assets can play a role in managing public funds.
