AI agent platform ai16z officially rebrands to ElizaOS
Quick Take Ai16z, an open-source platform for building and managing AI agents, has rebranded to ElizaOS. The project’s original name closely resembled that of the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z).

Ai16z, an open-source platform for building and managing AI agents, has undergone a rebranding to ElizaOS.
Shaw Walters, the project's founder, said on X that moving to ElizaOS would further enhance its collaboration with “established players.”
The project oversees the Eliza agent development framework, an open-source platform for building and managing AI agents.
The project's original name closely resembled that of the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z). Walters described the initial naming as a “playful reference” to a16z at a time when the project launched with a $75,000 raise on the daos.fun platform.
As the project became one of the largest AI agent platforms in the blockchain space, it needed a more serious rebranding that did not potentially violate trademarks.
“In just three months, we grew our AUM 300x," Walters wrote. "Now we’re leveling up with a cohesive brand and working on Eliza v2."
Chris Dixon, managing partner at a16z venture capital's crypto arm, recently said in a podcast interview that a16z had requested that the AI agent platform change its name because it created confusion.
ElizOS's cryptocurrency token is currently priced at $0.6, with a market capitalization exceeding $600 million.
Despite the rebrand, the project will retain the ai16z ticker for this token for now, with any future changes subject to community voting through a new DAO voting module.
Walters said no new tokens will be issued as part of the rebranding process.
