Bitcoin average acquisition cost hits $40,980 in 2024

Bitcoin's (CRYPTO:BTC) average acquisition cost, also known as the aggregate cost basis, reached an all-time high of $40,980 at the close of 2024, according to ARK Invest's "Big Ideas 2025" report.

This represents an 86% surge over the past year.

The aggregate cost metric is viewed by some investors as a gauge of Bitcoin's fair value over the long haul, which could become a critical support level during future bear markets.

According to CoinGlass data, Bitcoin traded at approximately $95,740.

As of February 12, 2025, the price for BTCUSD was $97,846.79.

Adam Back, co-founder of Blockstream, suggests that Bitcoin's "floor price" has already exceeded $40,000, establishing a strong support line.

Certain technical indicators point to a "floor price" nearing $44,000.

On February 11, 2025, Bitcoin's 200-week moving average, a key indicator for identifying long-term market trends, hit $43,983.

Back noted that the Bitcoin 200-week moving average has effectively become the Bitcoin floor price, having surpassed $40,000.

He suggests viewing it as the approximate Bitcoin floor price without the volatility, based on historical data.

However, in the short term, Bitcoin's price remains susceptible to economic indicators, including the U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) data.

Iliya Kalchev, a dispatch analyst at Nexo, stated that a higher-than-expected CPI reading could shift investor focus back to rate hikes, influencing BTC's near-term trajectory.

According to YCharts, the Bitcoin Average Transaction Fee is at a current level of 1.406, down from 1.627 yesterday and down from 8.202 one year ago.

The average purchase price of Bitcoin buyers in 2024 was $65,901.

At the time of reporting, the Bitcoin (BTC) price was $98,020.30.
